Kato clay
27 March, 201027 March, 2010 5 comments Uncategorized Uncategorized

I have to say, I absolutely love making canes out of Kato: the way it handles, the colours, the crispness. Wow! Kato recently introduced a new formula clay which is so easy to condition. What a pleasure! It is saving me so much time and effort. At present I am busy working through blocks of old Kato with some new formula clay added in. I love the old formula clay too ... once it is conditioned! The best way to do this is to give it lots of solid whacks with a big rubber mallet (Google "Jana Whack" to see what I mean). Another added benefit of Kato is that your hands keep clean because of its firmness. This is a big plus in my book as I hate having goo building up on my hands while I work.

Thanks for the feedback on Kato. I liked the old formula. I hope the new formula isn't too soft.

for me the new formula IS too soft and sticky - Donna gave me some packs when we met on Synergy in February. When I talked to Judy at CCC1 about it, she told me that Tony is actually working on a in-between-formula - which will be a bit harder again - I hope this is true. Otherwise I have to buy all the old stuff that's left in the stores;)

I recently went to Donna Kato workshop in Verneuil sur Seine in France and I noticed that my white katoclay block was too soft and sticky compared with the other colors. Donna told us that they are doing tests to find the good formula. It is the same problem with fimo.

Donna is my hero and with all respect, this clay does not cut it anymore! I am extremely disappointed with the new Kato clay formula. It is definitely;y too soft. . Kato clay is the best for making canes and although harder to condition the old formula was by far the best clay on the market. I recently spent 10 days claying with a another advanced clayer from Florida and it was awful working with it. It was like working with Sculpey III. I had changed over to Kato when the old formula was still available, and now I am hoarding the bit old stuff I have left. I totally realize that they are trying to make everyone happy but serious adult clayers especially caners WILL NOT LIKE THE NEW STUFF AT ALL. Hope something is done soon or I will have to change brands again!
