Description: This is an example of the crane ornaments* described below: The school where I teach French and Japanese, Blackford High School in Hartford City, Indiana, is involved in a project to help the people of Japan. Our Japanese Club and World Language Department Students are working to collect donations for the Japanese Red Cross It is a tradition in Japan to make one thousand origami cranes as a show of support for teammates, friends and loved ones facing challenges. Cranes symbolize long life, fidelity, and peace. Blackford High School students are making paper origami cranes to honor this Japanese tradition and to show our support as the Japanese people struggle to pull their lives back together after the devastating earthquake, tsunami and nuclear meltdown. Our goal is to fold 1000 cranes and collect $1000 to send to Japan through the Japanese Red Cross. We ask each person who donates to write a wish or prayer on the wing of one of the paper cranes. As soon as we reach our goal, we will send our cranes to a school in Japan as a tangible sign of our support and as a wish for their future. *In addition to the origami cranes made from paper, I have been following Judy Dunn's instructions for making cranes by folding thin sheets of polymer clay. I donate these cranes as a gift for those who give at least three dollars for the Japanese Red Cross. My students have been adding glass beads to the cranes making ornaments with them. 3月からいつも生徒たちと鶴を作って寄付金を募っています。毎日、日本の人々の方が心配しています。本当に物凄い時代ですね。Our thoughts and prayers are with everyone in Japan.がんばって下さい。
